Valentine's Day Drinks and Desserts!

Valentine’s Day is Sunday! Last week, we wrote about different events going on in the San Fernando Valley and restaurants participating in the holiday by listing their Valentine’s Day specials! This week, we wanted to feature some Valentine’s Day cocktails and recipes for your Galentines or friends!

  1. The Creamy Chocolate Raspberry cocktail tastes like it sounds—but add a red sugar rim to make it festive! Plus, who doesn’t love chocolate on Valentine’s Day?! Recipe: 1 1/2 ounces vanilla vodka, 1 ounce Godiva chocolate liqueur, 1 ounce Chambord, and 1 ounce half-n-half. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Pour in all ingredients, and shake until chilled. Rim a martini glass with pink sugar (you can make your own pink sugar by mixing sugar with a couple drops of red food coloring). Strain the mixture into the glass, and serve.
  2. The Scarlett O’Hara cocktail. The name alone reminds us of romance, or at least it should. If you haven’t seen Gone With the Wind, watch it this Valentine’s Day and drink this beautifully festive drink. Recipe: 2 ounces Southern Comfort, a dash of lime juice, 6 ounces cranberry juice, and a garnish with a lime wedge. Pour the Southern Comfort, lime juice and cranberry juice into a shaker with ice, and shake well. Strain into a sour or Collins glass.
  3. Romance is a candytini with Kahlua, Bailey’s, Crème de Cacao, and cream. Garnish it with shaved chocolate and pay attention to your presentation! Recipe here: 3/4 ounce Tia Maria, 3/4 ounce Carolan’s Irish cream, 3/4 ounce dark creme de cacao, and 1 ounce heavy cream. Shake the ingredients with ice and strain them into a martini glass. No garnish is required, but it looks great with speared cherries, and for Valentine’s Day, you might want to serve it with some chocolate covered cherries or truffles.
  4. Feel the love with this heart-filled cake roll. Every slice gives you a beautiful pink heart, matched with smaller chocolate hearts on the exterior! Recipe here: http://cleobuttera.com/cakes/love-is-all-around-cake-roll/
  5. YUM! Check out the recipe to these Valentine’s Day Donuts! Who doesn’t love donuts?! Plus, these ones are festive, delicious, and so pretty! http://thefirstyearblog.com/valentines-day-donuts/
  6. If you want a not so classic, classic chocolate cake, check out this recipe! The frosting is a marshmallow cream and bittersweet chocolate.http://www.countryliving.com/food-drinks/recipes/a2682/deep-dark-chocolate-cake-desserts/

Remember, Valentine’s Day is just about love! If you want to show some love to your furry little friend, here’s a recipe for a dog cake! http://keepingmycents.blogspot.com/2013/03/dog-birthday.html

If Valentine’s Day isn’t your thing, invite over a friend and make the day about catching up and eating good food. Watch a movie or pamper yourself.

Be sure to check out last week’s post if you need help with picking a restaurant!

Enjoy this day! It’s a day about love.
